The term "depth" is a buzzword that's used in football circles and can be the razor-thin margin between a win or a loss.
For first-year wide receivers coach Micah Simon, the Bears have 14 receivers on the roster. With a mix of veteran returners and several newcomers, the receiver's room is as deep as any position on the team.
"I'm super pleased about the progress this group has made from Spring football to now. There is a lot of talent from top to bottom, from the upperclassmen to the freshmen," Simon said. "They continue to listen, are coachable, and keep digging for the betterment of themselves individually and as a team."
What stands out to Simon is the commitment the unit has.
"They have done a great into buying into the culture Coach Lamb has established and the process we believe will help us win."
The Bears return three receivers from 2022 that saw significant playing time.
Zain Zinicola, who played in just seven games, tallied 38 receptions for 386 yards and two touchdowns. Zinicola averaged 10.16 yards per reception and 54.14 yards per game. Ty Arrington recorded 369 receiving yards on 35 receptions and four touchdowns. Arrington averaged 10.54 yards per reception. Noah Ford played in nine games and finished with 237 receiving yards on 24 receptions and three touchdowns.
