UNC Begins Softball Tournament vs Montana

OGDEN, Utah -- The Northern Colorado softball team begins postseason play on Wednesday, May 10, taking on Montana in the first round of the 2023 Big Sky Conference Softball Championship. First pitch between the Bears and the Grizzlies is scheduled for noon (MT).
With a 9-6 mark in Big Sky competition, the Bears enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed, while the Griz are the tournament's No. 6 seed. The winner will advance to play the No. 2 seed Sacramento State at 5 p.m. that same day. The loser will play the loser of the Portland State vs Weber State game on Thursday at noon.

- UNC's leadoff hitter Lauren Strathearn leads the Big Sky with a .379 batting average. Additionally, Alyssa Wenzel ranks fourth (.365) and Paola Villegas is seventh (.347).
- The Bears Pitchers rank first and third for strikeouts, Erin Caviness leads the Big Sky with 125 strikeouts, while Isabelle DiNapoli is third with 70.
- Caviness also ranks second in the league with an opposing batting average of .253, and fourth in the league with a 3.24 ERA.
