Series Preview: UNC hosts Omaha for Season Finale

Greeley, Colo. -- The Northern Colorado baseball team closes out the 2023 regular season this week, hosting Omaha for a three-game series this Thursday-Saturday, May 18-20. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 1 p.m. (MT), while first pitch on both Friday and Saturday is set for noon.
Series History
• The games this week will be the first time Omaha has played in Greeley since 2013. In the last series against UNO at home, a two-game series on March 22-22, 2013, the Bears won the games by scores of 19-3 and 13-12.
• UNC and Omaha have played a total of 26 times, with the Mavericks holding a 15-11 advantage in the all-time series. However, since UNC moved to Division I, the Bears hold a 7-6 record against the Mavericks.
• Omaha has currently won the last five previous meetings, with UNC's last win against UNO coming on April 8, 2022, by a score of 1-0.
King's Court
• Sophomore Jake King has been a consistent threat in the UNC lineup. Over the past 10 games, he's batted .324 with four RBI, a pair of doubles and has drawn nine walks. For the season, King is batting a team-high .322 with 17 RBI and has drawn a team-best 24 walks. His batting average ranks eighth in the Summit League, while his .418 on-base percentage ranks 10th in the conference.
Wagner Producing
• Junior Caden Wagner leads the team with 31 RBI and five home runs. The Parker, Colorado native has appeared and started in all 42 games and is second on the team with a .302 average. He also leads the team with 149 at-bats.
Summit League Tournament
• The Summit League tournament begins Wednesday, May 24 in Fargo. The top four teams qualify, and the Bears currently sit in sixth place in league standings with a record of 6-15. Omaha currently occupies the fourth spot in the standings with a record of 8-12, while Western Illinois sits in fifth with an 8-13 mark.
• For the Bears to advance to the Summit League tournament, UNC needs to sweep Omaha and Western Illinois needs to lose all three of its games this week against Oral Roberts.
