Smith Throws Complete-Game Shutout and UNC Defeats SDSU 3-0

BROOKINGS, S.D. – True freshman Dylan Smith tossed a complete-game nine-inning shutout to lead Northern Colorado past South Dakota State 3-0 in the series opener Saturday afternoon.
Smith kept the Jackrabbits off-balance throughout the contest and scattered five hits, walked three batters, and fanned five.
The Bear's offense provided Smith with enough run support early. Jake King opened the game with a walk and later advanced to third base and would score on a passed ball.
In the second inning, Austin Bunn scored on a fielding error to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. Bunn added a sacrifice fly RBI in the eighth inning.
Craig Kenny and Caden Wagner each batted 2-for-4.
Due to inclement weather, game two was postponed to Sunday for a 12 p.m. doubleheader on the campus of Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
