OGDEN, Utah – Sophomore Isabelle DiNapoli threw a complete-game shutout and Northern Colorado dispatched Portland State 5-0 to advance to the Big Sky Championship versus Idaho State.
DiNapoli, a 5-foot-9 right-hander out of Chatfield High School scattered six hits, allowed one walk, and fanned seven batters.
The Bears provided DiNapoli with plenty of run support. UNC started quickly in the top of the first with Amailee Morales and Alexi Barashkoff providing back-to-back RBI singles to put the Bears up 2-0.
For good measure, UNC added three runs in the top of the seventh to put the contest out of reach.
Jayden Gandert scored on an error and Alyssa Wenzel recorded an infield RBI single. Barashkoff finished the scoring run with an RBI single to center field.
As a team, the Bears produced 11 hits.
Barashkoff and Lauren Strathearn each finished 2-for-4, with Barashkoff adding a pair of RBI. Jayden Gandert batted 2-for-3 and Sabrina Javorsky finished 1-for-2.
UNC and ISU will meet in game one Saturday at 1 p.m. and game two is set to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener. The Bears need to win both games to claim the championship.
