GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado rolled past CSU-Pueblo 9-3 Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action from Jackson Field.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Jackson Romero put the Bears ahead for good. The Fort Collins native delivered a two-RBI triple to right field and UNC led 4-3. Romero and Carson Gross each scored on wild pitches and the Blue & Gold led 6-3 after six complete.
Jake King, Craig Kenny, and Caden Wagner added RBIs in the eighth inning to extend the lead.
Romero finished 4-for-4 with three RBI and scored twice, while Gross batted 2-for-5 and scored twice.
As a team, UNC recorded 10 hits and drew nine walks.
Murphy Gienger entered in the fifth inning and was credited with the win. The Castle Rock product tossed two and two-third innings, scattered a pair of hits, and allowed one walk while striking out three batters.
Dylan Smith and Kevin Sharp each tossed one inning of shutout baseball to close out the game.
UNC returns to action Wednesday, May 3 at Air Force.
The Bear's next home series is May 5-7 and host North Dakota State in Summit League action.
