MACOMB, Ill. – Northern Colorado defeated Western Illinois 8-4 to clinch the series Sunday afternoon in Summit League play.
WIU opened a 3-0 lead, however, UNC countered in the top of the fourth to tie it at 3-3.
Bryce Moore drew a bases-loaded walk, while Jackson Romero and Carson Gross each added an RBI.
The Bears took the lead for good in the sixth inning with a Jake King RBI single.
UNC added three insurance runs in the eighth inning to put the contest out of reach.
As a team, the Bears produced eight hits and eight walks.
Caden Wagner finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Trey Cruz started and earned the win. Cruz threw five and one-third innings, scattered seven hits and three runs (all unearned), and one walk while fanning four batters.
The Bears return to action Tuesday at Colorado School of Mines.
