Bears to Conclude Non-Conference Schedule with Washington State and Utah State

GREELEY, Colo.- Northern Colorado Soccer will finish their three-game road stint as they take on Pac-12 opponent Washington State in Pullman on Thursday before returning to Greeley to host Utah State on Sunday. The matches with the Cougars and the Aggies will mark the conclusion of the Bears' 2022 non-conference schedule.

Scouting the Cougars
Pac-12 team Washington State is under their eighth season of Head Coach Todd Shulenburger's direction. They go into the UNC match with an overall record of 4-1-1 on the season. Their record consists of a four-game winning streak against Eastern Washington, Seattle, Denver, and Cal Poly. Most recently, they claimed a 3-2 victory over Cal Poly at home in Pullman. They will be the third power five opponent UNC will face in 2022.

The Cougars' roster includes some notable players to watch in the game against the Bears in Margie Detrizio, Grayson Lynch, and Nadia Cooper. Detrizio leads the Cougars with six goals and four assists this season. Lynch has also been a key player for WSU, netting the game winner against Cal Poly last week. Goalkeeper Nadia Cooper will also be a pivotal member in the match against UNC, having recorded eight saves and one shutout, while giving up eight goals this season.

Northern Colorado and Washington State will meet for the third time in program histories come Thursday night. The Bears have an all-time record of 0-2 against the Cougars. In their most recent matchup last season, the Bears fell 3-0 at home. This gave them a mark of both 0-1 in Greeley and in Pullman.

First year Head Coach Manny Martins will bring his Utah State Aggies to Jackson Stadium with a 2022 record of 2-2-3. Most recently, USU has a two-game losing streak with road losses to Texas and Utah, 2-1 and 1-0, respectively. The Mountain West team will also face BYU at home on Thursday before making the trip to Greeley on Sunday.

Some notable Aggies so far this season come in the form of Dietra Walton, London Miller, Sammy Murdock, and Kaitlyn Richins. Walton, the team's goalie, recorded her 18th career shutout earlier this season in a 0-0 tie with UC Riverside. Miller and Murdock are the Aggies' leading scorers with two goals, and one assist each this season. Finally, Richins' performance in the team's 5-0 win against Idaho State and 2-2 draw with Northern Arizona earlier this season earned her Mountain West Freshman of the Week Honors back in August.

The Bears have an all-time record of 1-4 when competing against the Aggies. In last season's matchup against USU, the Bears fell 2-0 in Logan, bringing their record to 1-3 on the road, 0-1 in Greeley, and 0-1on neutral turf. Sunday's home match will be only the second time the Bears have hosted their Mountain West opponent at Jackson Stadium.
Thursday's match against WSU is set for 8 p.m. MT, while Sunday's game against USU at Jackson is slated for 12 p.m. MT.
