COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Northern Colorado Track and Field wrapped up regular season competition on a high note thanks to new school records from Qwazon Al-Khaliq and Jerome Campbell and podium finishes across multiple events at the Air Force Twilight Open on Friday.
Â
In all, the Bears set two new school records, two athletes tabbed new personal records, and the team earned a total of seven podium finishes at the meet.
Â
To kick things off for UNC, Qwazon Al-Khaliq once again kept his winning ways alive, taking first place in the men's triple jump. Not only did he earn a gold medal, but Al-Khaliq also broke the school's triple jump record with his mark of 16.30m. He is currently ranked second in the west region and sixth in the NCAA thanks to his performance.
Â
But the broken records did not end there for the Bears. Freshman Jerome Campbell, who was fresh off of breaking the school record in the 110m hurdles earlier this season, once again reset his own record in the event with a lightning-fast time of 13.76. He took first in the event and now sits at 15th in the west region and 32nd in the nation.
Â
Campbell also raced as a part of the 4x100 men's relay team alongside Jaylen Lyon, Michael Ciccio, and Theirry N'Seboko, winning the third gold medal of the day for UNC. They clocked a time of 41.43 to secure the win.
Â
Wendira Moss also claimed a first-place victory for the Bears in the 200m, crossing the line at 24.46 and breaking her own personal record in the process. Her performance earned her the eighth best time in the Big Sky.
Â
Rounding out the gold medal finishes for the team was Hailey Harris in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.70m. This mark set Harris a new personal record and is currently the 14th best in the Big Sky. She also went on to finish third place in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.11m for her second podium finish of the meet.
Â
Also in the men's triple jump, Welre Olivier took second place behind teammate Al-Khaliq with a mark of 15.58m to earn a silver medal. This lands him at No. 17 in the west region and No. 43 in the NCAA rankings.
Â
Next stop for the Bears will be the Big Sky Championships as they commence post-season competition in Pocatello, Idaho on May 11-14.
