Garett Kiley has been elevated to Associate Head Coach
GREELEY, Colo.- UNC Wrestling head coach Troy Nickerson has promoted Garett Kiley to Associate Head Coach. Kiley moves to his new position after spending the past three seasons as the head assistant coach. Overall, Kiley will be entering his fifth season with Northern Colorado for the 2022-23 season.
Â
"For the past four years, Coach Kiley has been an integral part of our program. His dedication, loyalty and commitment to making this program better each day is relentless," Nickerson said. "Coach Kiley is well deserving of this promotion!"
Â
In his time at UNC, Kiley has proven to be instrumental in the team's success both on the mat and in the classroom. He has moved up the ranks from an assistant coach to Head Assistant in 2019, and now to Associate Head Coach.
Â
While coaching the Bears, he has helped 15 wrestlers to the NCAA Championships, sign two top 15 ranked recruiting classes and has 16 NWCA Scholar All-Americans.
Â
In 2021-22 Kiley was a pivotal member of the coaching staff and played a key role in the historic success of the team. He helped assist Andrew Alirez in becoming the first Big 12 Champion in school history, and the highest advancing UNC wrestler in the NCAA Championships since 2010. The season also boasted three NCAA Championship qualifiers thanks to Kiley and the coaching staff.Â
Â
One of those wrestlers who qualified for the NCAA Championships was Alan Clothier, who became the program's first four-time place winner at the Southern Scuffle.
Â
In the 2020-21 season, he also helped the team earn their first NWCA ranking in 51 years and was busy on the recruiting trail, helping sign the program's second top 15 class in three years.
Â
All of these accolades and his 13 years of total coaching experience put him in the perfect position to continue leading UNC wrestlers in his new role as Associate Head Coach under Head Coach Troy Nickerson.
