Bears fall in final Summit League series of the season

Fresh off a brilliant outing in Illinois a week ago, Jayden Metz started his Sunday off with a solid first couple of innings. Through his first four frames, Metz struck out three and allowed four runs but just two of them were earned.
The UNC offense that had so much success on Saturday, needed until the sixth inning to start turning its wheels.
Hayden Heinze jumpstarted the big inning, scoring Josh Glenn with an RBI single. Two batters later it was the league's hit king in Shaydon Kubo who brought Heinze and both Chase Cromer and Cameron Cromer home with a three-RBI double.
Kubo's double was all part of yet another stellar performance for the Waipahu, Hawaii native. He finished the afternoon 3-6 at the dish with two doubles and three RBI.
All of the sudden, Northern Colorado was within two, 6-4.
North Dakota State responded quickly, however. The Bison plated five runs in the seventh to restore a hefty advantage.
Aiden Leahy and Heinze both forced the issue in the final inning of the afternoon. Leahy's speed allowed the senior to scamper home on an overthrow while Heinze carded his second RBI of the day.
UNC's rally would inevitably cut short, handing NDSU the contest, 13-6.
Game Notes
- Shaydon Kubo recorded his sixth three-hit performance of the year and 19th multi-hit performance.
- Kubo's 11-game hit streak matches UNC's longest of the season.
- Lincoln Turner secured his eighth multi-hit game of the year.
- Hayden Heinze grabbed his second multi-RBI contest of the season.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado will finish its season in the Northwest with one final trip to Washington. The four-game series is set to begin on Thursday, May 19.
