Softball's Season Ends in Heartbreaking Fashion

UNC softball fell to Portland State 6-2
OGDEN, Utah – The 2022 season concluded on Friday afternoon for Northern Colorado softball. The Bears fell 6-2 in one of the most obscure ways.
UNC jumped out to a 2-0 lead with runs in the second and fourth innings, but PSU took the lead with a five-run sixth. With the bases loaded Northern Colorado reentered Isabelle DiNapoli to the circle who pitched earlier in the inning. Due to NCAA rule 10.19.3.4 the first PSU batter she faced started with a 3-0 count and proceeded to draw a walk to score the go-ahead run.
The Vikings proceeded to extend their lead to four runs with a bases-clearing triple.
DiNapoli ended up with another strong outing going 6.0 innings striking out 10 and allowing four runs.
The Bears jumped out to the early lead thanks to Alexsi Barashkoff's RBI double to the left center gap scoring pinch runner Lainey Hanehan.
Freshman Peyton Gale drove home the second run of the game with a sacrifice fly bringing home Paola Villegas.
Northern Colorado concludes its season with a 23-30 record.
