Brian Reader and Zach Cable join the UNC Football staff
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado football has added a pair of new faces to its coaching staff in Brian Reader and Zach Cable. Reader joins the team as the running backs coach and Cable will be coaching the outside linebackers.
Reader comes to UNC after spending the last seven seasons at Idaho including the last season as the Vandals' Offensive Coordinator. Prior to that, he worked with the wide receivers, running backs and as the Director of Operations and Recruiting Coordinator.

During this time with UI he coached two All-Americans and four All-Big Sky players.
An Idaho alum, Reader played quarterback for the Vandals from 2009-11. He appeared in 27 games, passing for 3,343 yards and 21 touchdowns. After walking on at Arkansas to begin his collegiate career, Reader spent one season at Monterey Peninsula College before going to Moscow. In his one season, Reader led the Lobos to an undefeated regular season and conference title while being named the Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
After college, Reader went on to a three-year professional career. He signed with the Iowa Barnstormers in the Arena Football League, where he played two seasons. In 2015, Reader finished his professional career with the New Orleans VooDoo, throwing 21 touchdowns and 1,143 yards in six games before sustaining a season-ending knee injury.
Reader's coaching career began before his playing days ended. During his offseasons, the Salinas, Calif., native would return home to help coach his alma mater, Palma High School. He had a hand in developing the team's quarterbacks and wide receivers from 2013-15.
Cable joins the staff at Northern Colorado after spending his past four years with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raider. In his time with the Raiders, he worked with both the offense and defense. He started as an offensive assistant working with the offensive line and tight ends including All-Pro Darren Waller.

Starting in 2019, Cable moved over to the defensive side of the ball primarily with the linebackers including Cory Littleton and Nick Kwiatkoski. The Raiders qualified for the NFL playoffs in 2021.
Before joining the Raiders, he played football at Idaho where he was a defensive lineman, starting for three seasons. He was a team captain in 2016 and 2017.
Cable earned a double major in Organizational Sciences and General Studies with a minor in Psychology from Idaho. He is the son of long-time NFL coach Tom Cable.
Along with the additions of Reader and Cable, head coach Ed McCaffrey also added Mitch Williams as the program's Video Coordinator from Western Illinois, Eddie Gonzales III as a Defensive Assistant and Kyle Ashby moves from coaching the outside linebackers to being a defensive assistant coach assisting with the whole defense.
Northern Colorado football is currently in the middle of its spring football practice with open practices to the public scheduled for Saturday, April 9 and April 16 at 9 am. UNC's spring game is set for Saturday, April 23 at 11 am inside Nottingham Field.
