Baseball hits the road for Summit League matchup versus Tommies

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado takes its two-game win streak on the road to Sait Paul, facing fellow Summit League newcomer St. Thomas.

Last Time Out
Northern Colorado captured its second consecutive win on Tuesday, garnering promising performances both offensively and defensively. Shaydon Kubo homered twice in a 12-run inning, Jake King delivered his third three-hit game of the season and Kevin Sharp, Sam Colehower, Ashton Mansur, Hunter Miller and Jayden Metz combined for a school-record 19 strikeouts in the 18-7 win over Colorado Christian.
Scouting the Tommies
St. Thomas is coming off arguably its best win of the season, a 6-0 victory at cross-town rival Minnesota. The win over the Gophers gives the Tommie's a three-game win streak heading into the weekend.
After 12 straight winning seasons at the Division II level, head coach and St. Thomas Alumni Chris Olean makes the jump to the Summit League.
Offensively, the Tommies are led by redshirt junior catcher Charlie Bartholomew. The Mahtomedi, Minnesota native leads the charge batting .297 and has collected a team-high five doubles.
One of the main strengths for St. Thomas this season has been its pitching staff. The Tommies boast an overall ERA of 4.17 led by Walker Retz who claims a 1.73 ERA with 34 strikeouts in his 26.0 innings pitched. Duke Coborn isn't far behind, stacking up 17 strikeouts in his eight appearances to grab a 2.04 ERA.
History against St. Thomas
This weekend's series marks the first official meeting between Northern Colorado and St. Thomas. The Tommies are also in its first year as a Summit League member, moving up from Division II a year ago.
