Track and Field Holds Rankings After Strong Weekend at Colorado State and Florida

FORT COLLINS, Colo. and GAINSVILLE, Fla. - Meets at both Colorado State and Florida provided yet another strong weekend of performances as UNC Track and Field continues to move up in individual rankings at the conference, regional, and national levels.

At the Doug Max Invitational, Qwazon Al-Khaliq, in his regular fashion, took home first place in the men's triple jump with a distance of 15.72m. This extends his first-place lead in the Big Sky and also places him at ninth in the west region and 20th in the NCAA.

Also winning gold in Fort Collins, were Anya Turner, Hailey Harris, and Steven Cross. Turner crossed the line with a time of 15.35 to beat out the competition in the 110m hurdles. In the women's triple jump, Harris secured her victory with a distance of 11.07m. Cross rounded out the individual gold medals for the team with a 34.00m throw in the men's javelin.

Both the men's and women's 4x400m relay teams came to compete, winning first place and sweeping the event for UNC with times of 3:35.96 and 4:16.75, respectively.

The group in Florida also racked up some impressive accolades over the weekend. Two athletes earned top-3 all-time program performances while at the Tom Jones Memorial.

Sabrina Richman is currently ranked third in the Big Sky thanks to her performance in the 400m in Gainesville. She finished with a 55.31, giving her the third-best time in school history in the event.

Also adding her name to the school record book over the weekend was freshman Regina Mpigachai. She clocked a 4:27.97 in the 1500m for a ninth-place finish, earning her the second-fastest time in program history. Mpigachai is also currently ranked ninth in the Big Sky.

In the 200m, Wendira Moss ran a time of 24.88, ranking her 14th in the Big Sky.

Gigi Douillard's time of 1:05.86 in the 400m hurdles earned her a No. 13 ranking in the conference.

The women's 4x400m relay team of Craiesha Johnson, Wendira Moss, Ruby Ann Gregory, and Sabrina Richman also competed well at the Swamp. They tabbed a time of 47.01 and are currently ranked third in the Big Sky.

What's Ahead
The Bears will attempt to keep climbing up the rankings as they compete at the Rock Chalk Classic hosted by the University of Kansas on April 30.
