After the Bears' offensive barrage, Kubo (.571), Hayden Heinze (.545), Jake King (.462) and Cameron Cromer (.462) own the No. 1-4 spots in top batting averages in the Summit.
Josh Glenn has two triples to his name in the early parts of 2022. The mark is the second-most in the conference and No. 40 in the nation.
As a team, Northern Colorado's six triples are also the second-most in the Summit League and No. 42 in the nation.
Last Time Out
For the first time since 2018, Northern Colorado swept an opponent, bringing home all three victories against Summit League foe Western Illinois. Shaydon Kubo dominated at the plate while the Bears got solid appearances on the mound to start its new conference journey off undefeated.
Scouting the Utes
First-year head coach Gary Henderson's squad is off to a roaring start in 2022. Utah earned series wins at LMU and CSU Bakersfield in a west coast road trip that also saw the Utes pick up victories at Fresno State, San Diego State and UNLV.
During that west coast swing, redshirt-sophomore TJ Clarkson picked up College Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Week honors for hitting .471 with three home runs en route to a 4-1 week for Utah.
Two weeks are already in the books in Pac-12 play with Henderson's squad picking up two out of three against the Huskies before dropping all three games to Oregon in Eugene.
Get 'em on and get 'em over is the name of the game for Utah. With 11 sacrifice bunts, the Utes are No. 1 in the Pac-12 and No. 11 in the nation. The Utah defense has also been spectacular, boasting the nation's 19th-best fielding percentage at .981.
Offensively, the Utes are led by Landon Frei. Frei has tallied a team-best 22 hits with one double, two home runs and a batting average of .338.
History against Utah
The Bears hold a 23-26 record against the Utes in a series that dates back to 1951. Head coach Carl Iwasaki will be looking to buck the recent trend with Utah winning each of the last seven contests.
Looking Ahead
UNC returns to Summit League action on Friday, March 25 as North Dakota State rolls into Jackson Field.
