GAME 1
UNC's emphatic opening statement in its first game at Jackson Stadium this season began with Ian Torpey. Earning the game 1 start, the sophomore right-hander opened his day by striking out the side.
Torpey blanked the Lancers once again in the second, setting up another opportunity for the Bears to strike first blood. Carson Gross crept into scoring position via a Caden Wagner single. A batter later, Cameron Cromer put a number on the board with an RBI single up the middle.
The red-hot bat of Jake King stepped to the plate in the third. After Shaydon Kubo singled, the RBI guru that is Josh Glenn delivered for the home fans, sneaking one through on the left side to put UNC up two.
Meanwhile, Torpey kept dealing on the bump. The San Jose, California native recorded career-highs in both innings pitched (5.2) and strikeouts (10).
While Mount Marty struck for runs in the fourth and fifth innings, head coach Carl Iwasaki's crew rebounded to tie the game in the bottom end of the fifth thanks to an RBI triple from Glenn.
Four runs blew open the game for the Lancers in the seventh and the visitors would add another in the ninth to take a commanding lead.
Caden Wagner and Cameron Cromer each tallied RBI in the bottom end of the final frame but the Blue and Gold's ninth-inning rally came up short, falling to MMC, 8-5.
GAME 2
Mount Marty struck first in the second contest of the afternoon but Josh Glenn wasn't about to let the Lancers have all the momentum.
Swinging on the first pitch he saw, Glenn Blasted his third home run of the year to tie the game at one.
After a clean second inning, the third was not as kind to the Bears. Seven runs on seven hits had Northern Colorado playing from behind early.
A Shaydon Kubo double and Cade Moeller RBI inched UNC closer in the bottom of the third.
Moeller would strike again in the fifth and Jacob Banister blasted a solo shot but two Mount Marty runs in the fourth and three in top of the fifth meant the Bears' comeback effort fell short, 13-6.
