Baseball drops opener to Pacific, looks ahead to weekend slate

STOCKTON, Calif. – Northern Colorado had its moments on opening day, earning bright spots from the likes of Garrett Fisher and Ashton Mansur but UNC couldn't keep pace with Pacific, falling 9-1.
Pacific struck for two runs in the opening frame to take the lead but the Bears were quick to counter.
The first Northern Colorado run of the year belongs to Garrett Fisher. After leading off the inning with a single, the do-everything man out of Fort Collins made it to second following a Caden Wagner single (his first hit as a Bear), stole third and scampered home on a Cade Moeller RBI groundout.
Two hits across the second and third innings produced another pair of runs to give the home side a 4-1 advantage.
Starting pitcher Riley Bost found the right gear in the fourth inning. The UT Arlington transfer struck out the first batter he saw in the inning and kept the streak going, striking out the side.
Bost finished his day with four full innings pitched and five strikeouts.
Ashton Mansur came in for the fifth and struck out two of the four batters he faced. An inning later, he passed the baton onto Sam Colehower, who was equally as impressive.
Colehower breezed through the six and struck out two during his two innings of work.
Offensively, UNC threatened to tie or even take the lead with pair of runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings but wasn't able to deliver the timely hit.
In the bottom end of the seventh, Pacific took advantage of a Northern Colorado error to push two across, stretching its lead.
The home side would go on to add some insurance in the eighth before the game's end, taking the victory 9-1.
Game Notes
Two more are slated for Saturday with the Tigers beginning at 2 p.m. MT.
