Northern Colorado is set for its final prep before the Big Sky Championship
GREELEY, Colo.- Following winning performances at the Texas Tech Shootout last weekend, UNC Track and Field aim to keep their winning streak intact as they compete at the Air Force Collegiate Open hosted by Air Force on Friday.
Â
At their last meet in Lubbock, the Bears had a great showing with personal bests and top finishes that put them in a solid place as they look towards Friday.
Â
This included a first-place win for Qwazon Al-Khaliq in the men's triple jump. Al-Khaliq earned a season-best mark of 16.03m, breaking the school record and landing him at No. 1 in the Big Sky, No. 2 in the Mountain Region, and 15th in the NCAA standings. The record-breaking jump also earned him Big Sky Athlete of the Week Honors.
Â
Other personal bests were achieved by Wendira Moss in the 600m and by Andrea Stark in the 60m hurdles last weekend as well.
Â
Northern Colorado will also leverage national success for the men's triple jump squad as they head to Colorado Springs. The squad made up of Al-Khaliq, Welre Olivier, Maccee Reed, and Tyler Thimsen is currently ranked second in the nation according to the USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings.
Â
The Air Force Collegiate Open is the final meet before UNC will travel to the Big Sky Championships held in Bozeman, Montana on Feb. 24-26.
