FARMINGTON, Utah– The Big Sky Conference office, in conjunction with ESPN, has announced the league's ESPNU contest is coming to Greeley as Northern Colorado's home contest against Weber State on Monday, February 6 will get the national treatment.
The game will take place at the Bank of Colorado Arena with a special 9 p.m. MT start time.
"We're ecstatic about the news that our team will be playing in front of a national audience on ESPNU versus a great Weber State team this season," UNC head coach Steve Smiley said. "We believe this is not only good for our university, but to showcase the Big Sky Conference as well. The goal will be to get a great crowd and to have The Bank rocking in February!"
UNC and Weber State tied for third place in the Big Sky standings a year ago while the Bears advanced to the conference tournament championship after posting two postseason wins. UNC went on to advancedto the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational before falling to eventual champion UNC Wilmington.
Both UNC and Weber State will look to contend for a conference title this year with UNC returning All-Big Sky selections Daylen Kountz and Matt Johnson II. The Wildcats will be led by returning All-Big Sky pick Dillon Jones.
This marks the second year of the Big Sky's landmark agreement with ESPN, which features at least one nationally televised contest per season. Last season the men's basketball 'Brawl of the Wild' between Montana and Montana State was featured on ESPNU.
"It's a testament to our program and Coach Smiley that the conference has chosen the Bears for this opportunity on the national stage," UNC Director of Athletics Darren Dunn said. "It's a great opportunity not only for UNC, but as a platform for Greeley and all of Northern Colorado."
In anticipation of the upcoming season, the 2022 Big Sky Basketball Tipoff, presented by Idaho Central Credit Union, will stream on ESPN+ at 10 a.m. MT on Tuesday, November 1.
