The 2021 Cross Country season starts Friday at the Wyoming Invite
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Cross Country returns to action for the 2021 season with the Wyoming Invitational Friday evening in Cheyenne.
"We're very excited to be competing as a team again since the COVID break a year ago," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Wayne Angel said. "We get to compete in front of a home crowd which is a plus. Our men and women have prepared all summer and they had a great training camp recently in Estes Park."
Friday's races will take place around the Little America golf course in Cheyenne with the women's race slated for 6 pm and men's at 6:30 pm. Alongside the Bears and host Cowboys will be in-state foes Colorado, Colorado State, Colorado School of Mines and Western Colorado.
It will be stiff competition for UNC as CU's women's program ranks No. 8. Meanwhile, CSU's men start the year ranked 12th and women 27th. Plus Colorado School of Mines won the Spring 2021 Division II national championship.
UNC has a strong lineup for the 2021 season with a mix of old and new. Jesse Hayward and Tim Chambers return for a veteran presence on the men's side to go with transfer Ethan Brenneman. On the women's team, the core of Melodie Lerouder, Emily Wilson, Alison Zigler and Julia Brown return. UNC also added Texas transfer Claudine Blancaflor.
"We will be racing a full squad with both teams. The only exception will be with our women, I will be holding out our top ladies to get two more weeks of training in before they compete."
Fans are allowed to attend the Wyoming Invitational. For those unable to attend live results can be found here.
