Early goals too much to overcome for Soccer on Sunday

GREELEY, Colo. – Three early goals from Washington State were too much for Northern Colorado to overcome on Sunday as Cougars walked away with the 3-0 victory.
WSU was pressing from the get-go, crossing multiple balls into the box early. Just over a minute into the game, the Cougs headed one past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Ashley Franza to take the early lead.
Just minutes later, Washington State was looking for more.
A second header, this one off a free-kick, had the Bears playing from two goals down.
While UNC did get four shots off in the first half, three of which on goal, a pass that slipped by the Northern Colorado's backline allowed a third goal.
Rather than packing it in, though, head coach Tim Barrera's crew buckled down and reset.
Washington State didn't turn down its intensity either.
Bears defenders Maddie Duren, Erika Hall, Lucy Hart and Hailer Collier picked up their marks and allowed their offense to run out in transition.
Lexi Pulley, Britney Donais, Haley O'Nan and Annie Hughes each tallied a shot on goal.
McKenna Wilson served in a duo of dangerous balls but no Northern Colorado attacker was able to find the back of the net.
In the end, they were unable to beat the WSU keeper as a second-half shutout for both schools finished the game at 3-0 for the Cougs.
