ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Northern Colorado Baseball wrapped up its 2021 campaign last weekend and three Bears stood out amongst the pack. Josh Glenn, Garrett Fisher and Ben McKay have each landed on the All-WAC Honorable Mention List.
Glenn, who was nominated for the Buster Posey Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, started all but two games for UNC this season. He led the team and finished sixth in the WAC in RBI with 42, compiled a team-best 10 doubles and rifled down 13 runners trying to steal this season.
Freshman Garrett Fisher made quite the impact for head coach Carl Iwasaki. Helping with catching duties, Fisher's hot bat and reliability to get on base earned him a regular spot as a designated hitter. Midway through the season, the Fort Collins native even found himself a home at first base on days Sam Leach took the mound. Fisher finished third on the team in on-base percentage (.378) and was second on the squad in doubles with eight. Seven times throughout the season, Garrett recorded two hits in a single game.
Northern Colorado's everyday shortstop Ben McKay may not have had the loudest bat in the UNC lineup but his consistency both at the dish and in the middle infield made him one of the best shortstops in the WAC. McKay reached base safely in 11 straight ball games, the second-most on the team. Starting all 47 games this season, Ben turned 13 double plays, piled up 81 assists and tallied 48 putouts.
