Baseball can't topple Trailblazers in doubleheader

A day after Northern Colorado sprinted to an early lead, the Trailblazers took a page out of their playbook, crossing the plate first in the bottom of the opening inning.
Starting pitcher Sam Leach had settled down in the second but DSU countered for three runs in the third, two in the fourth and four more in the fifth to take command of the first contest of the day.
Leach contributed at the dish in the top of the sixth with a two-RBI double but it proved too little too late as Dixie State secured the win, 11-2.
Northern Colorado went back to work offensively to kick off game two of the afternoon. With Shaydon Kubo leading off the game with a single, Matt Burkart brought him home two batters later with a base knock of his own.TOP 7 | That's a two-RBI double from @SammyLeach6 !!

The Trailblazers tied the game up at one in the bottom half, though, capitalizing on a UNC error.
Kubo and company weren't quite done with the Dixie State starter, however.
Beginning with a Josh Glenn single, Kubo's second hit of the ballgame was good enough to drive in Glenn and Cade Moeller, helping Northern Colorado retake the lead, 3-1.
Following a crisp third frame, it was the Trailblazers who made the big splash in the fourth. A grand slam meant the home side leapfrogged the Bears to get back out in front, 5-3.TOP 2 | @shaykubo drives in two and we take back the lead!

Back-to-back singles from Sam Leach and Matt Burkart had UNC working the eighth inning. The duo was even moved into scoring position thanks to a beautiful bunt from Ben McKay but was left on the base pads.
After Dixie State grabbed an insurance run in the bottom end, Northern Colorado tried to kickstart a rally in the ninth after a walk from Shaydon Kubo and a double from Johnny Graham.
It wasn't to be, though, as the Trailblazers closed out its third win of the series, 6-3.TOP 9 | @jdegraham2 doubles!! We're not done yet!!
