Bears host Hornets in return to WAC play

GREELEY, Colo. – WAC baseball is back on the calendar this weekend as Northern Colorado hosts Sacramento State for a four-game set beginning on Friday afternoon.
Who: Northern Colorado (7-22, 3-13) vs. Sacramento State (22-10, 14-6)
When: April 23-25, 2021

LEADING OFF
Buster Posey Collegiate Catcher of the Year nominee Josh Glenn continues to dazzle for the Bears behind the plate and at the dish. The Draper, Utah native is second in the Western Athletic Conference in RBI with 30. His six sacrifice flies are best in the WAC and second-best in the nation.
Northern Colorado's ironman Sam Leach boasts two complete games, including a complete-game shutout win over Utah Valley. Leach is one of three pitchers to tally two complete games this season.
Dylan Bowers holds the Bears' other complete game. The big right-hander also ranks third in the conference with 56 strikeouts and first in strikeouts per nine innings with 12.29.
Freshman Cooper Rust has earned his place in the starting rotation. The righty from Sandy, Utah pitched six big innings against Grand Canyon, earning his first win and a giant victory for the Bears.
Logan Chase a been a bright figure out of the UNC bullpen this season. With Northern Colorado's only save of the season, Chase has surrendered just one earned run in his last six appearances. Only Austin Bergdahl owns a better ERA out of the pen.
Speaking of Bergdahl, the redshirt senior has four appearances since returning from injury and has given up only four hits in 3.1 innings of work.
Second baseman Shaydon Kubo is rounding into form at the dish. Not only did Kubo launch his first career home run, but he also has racked up a four-game hit streak across two series.
With seven home runs on the season, Matt Burkart sits second in the WAC.
SCOUTING SACRAMENTO STATE
Eleventh-year head coach Reggie Christiansen once again has his squad sitting near the top of the WAC Standings. However, after dropping three of four against Seattle, the Hornets will be eager to get back to its winning ways.
Pitchers Scott Randall and Brady Rodriguez each showcase five wins so far on their 2021 resumes. Travis Adams isn't far behind with four. Randall claims the conference best strikeout to walk ratio at 14.25.
As a team, Sacramento State possesses a potent offense ranking first in the WAC in scoring, on-base percentage, batting average, home runs, sac flies and doubles per game.
A LOOK AHEAD.
Northern Colorado remains at home at Jackson Field for one more weekend. The final home series of the year against Tarleton State begins on Friday, April 30, at 2 p.m. MT.
