Bears seek back-to-back Big Sky Tournament titles, facing Weber State Friday

GREELEY, Colo. – All eyes are on the Bank of Colorado Arena as Northern Colorado seeks its sixth Big Sky Tournament title, facing familiar foe Weber State in the championship match.

For the second consecutive season, Northern Colorado will play in the Big Sky Volleyball Championship match against Weber State. The Bears are 5-1 all-time in the title game since joining the conference in 2006.
In last year's title bout against Weber State, Daisy Schultz stacked up 68 assists in the five-set thriller as Kailey Jo Ince recorded 24 kills and Taylor Muff added 17 more along with 20 digs.
Lyndsey Oates' Bears are peaking at the right moment. Its .389 hitting percentage in the semifinals against Southern Utah was a season-high for UNC.
Speaking of season-bests, Rachel Hickman went 11 for 13 with no errors versus SUU, culminating in a .846 hitting percentage. The mark set a new Big Sky tournament record and was one kill shy of setting a new school record for individual hitting percentage in a single match.
Every player on the roster earned playing time in the win over the Thunderbirds on Thursday.
Northern Colorado's 13 aces were the most in a single match since the Bears posted 13 against Portland State on February 15. Taylor Muff and Kyndall Feather each snagged four. Freshman Bronwyn Timperley added two, her first aces in the Blue and Gold.
Fellow freshman Syd Cole grabbed some playing time late in the third set and racked up a new career-high in assists with seven.
Scouting Weber State
Jeremiah Larsen's crew has won eight straight heading into the championship match, including a 3-1 victory over Northern Arizona in the semifinals.
Setter Ashlyn Power led the conference in assists per set at a rate of 10.65. She had plenty of targets to assists to, non more prominent than Rylin Adams. Adams led the Big Sky in kills per set, points per set, total attacks and total kills. Dani Nay wasn't too far behind. The redshirt sophomore is second on the team at 3.62 kills per set.
History Against the Wildcats
The Bears are 24-12 all-time against Weber State. However, since beating the Wildcats three times in 2019, UNC has dropped two straight against WSU. Two of the last three matches have gone the full five sets.
Looking Ahead
Should Northern Colorado emerge victorious against Weber State, UNC will make its sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament.
