Baseball can't find way past Lancers

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Twice Northern Colorado knocked on the doorstep of a comeback in Riverside but twice California Baptist prevailed, earning both wins on Sunday.
The Bears wasted little time getting Jacob Salim some run support in the first game of the day.
A single and double left Jake Gitter standing on Third and Sam Leach on second. The WAC's RBI-leader Josh Glenn took full advantage of his opportunity with his fifth sac-fly of the season to bring in Gitter.
Two hits and two walks in the bottom half, though, led to two runs for the Lancers and gave CBU the lead back.
Northern Colorado thought they had tied the game in the third with what would have been Glenn's sixth sac fly of the season. Instead, Gitter was ruled to leave third base early, taking the tying run off the board.
There the game stood for five innings. Jacob Salim delivered yet another solid outing for UNC. The Oral Roberts transfer went five full innings, striking out two, surrendered two runs and stranded seven.
California Baptist denied the Bears of any scoring opportunities late in the afternoon, recording six straight outs to end the first seven-inning contest of the day.
CBU jumped all over Northern Colorado to begin the final game of the series. The Lancers managed five runs on four hits in the bottom of the first to take a commanding lead.
UNC caught a break in the third inning, scoring on an error and leaving another RBI opportunity for Josh Glenn. This time as a designated hitter, Glenn did collect his sixth sac fly of the season to pull the Bears within four, 6-2.
Twice Northern Colorado had a runner 90-feet away at third and even loaded the bases fourth inning but each time failed to claw the Bears any closer.
Sam Leach changed all that in the seventh.
Launching his second home run of the season, Leach made it a three-run ballgame. After a Blake Tweedt single, Garrett Fisher brought the Bears even closer with a double down the left-field line. All of a sudden, UNC was within striking distance.
California Baptist wasn't going to let anything slide as they squeezed across an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth and blanked Northern Colorado for one more inning in the ninth to take the fourth and final victory of the weekend.
