Bears look to continue winning ways with Sacramento State in town

GREELEY, Colo. – Returning to the Bank after its first series sweep of the season, Northern Colorado Volleyball welcomes Sacramento State to Greeley for a two-match set over Super Bowl weekend.
Who: Northern Colorado (3-1, 3-1) vs. Sacramento State (3-1, 3-1)

Quick Sets
Freshman middle blocker Lauren Strain was instrumental in the Bears' come from behind victory on Monday evening. The Colorado native lined up five big blocks in just the fourth and fifth sets alone.
With 39 digs, an average of 4.33 digs per set and part of a defense that held EWU to a .137 attack percentage, Kyndall Feather was awarded the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week. It was the first time she's picked up the honor and the first Bear to do so this season.
Lyndsey Oates' offensive is beginning to find its groove in the early parts of the 2021 Spring campaign. With 13.1 kills per set, UNC ranks tops in the conference and 63rd in the nation.
Senior setter Daisy Schultz has been doing Daisy Schultz things to start the season. The 2019 Big Sky MVP's 10.1 assists per set and 152 total assists rank second the first in the conference, respectively.
Freshman Bronwyn Timperley saw her first action in the Blue and Gold over the weekend, recording two digs against Eastern Washington.

Northern Colorado returns to Greeley after sweeping Eastern Washington last weekend. UNC's second victory over the Eagles included a 16-5 run to dig themselves out of a fourth-set hole before taking the decisive fifth set, 16-14.
Scouting Sacramento State
Head coach Ruben Volta has his team off to a 3-1 start on the year after a split against Northern Arizona in Flagstaff and a sweep against Idaho State at home.
The Hornets were tabbed fifth in the Big Sky Preseason rankings and currently sit tied for third with the Bears and Lumberjacks.
As a team, Sacramento State ranks No. 1 in the conference in assists at 12.23 per set. The Hornets are also a dynamic serving team averaging 2.38 aces per set. Macey Hayen leads the Big Sky in aces with .54 per set.
History Against the Hornets
The Bears have been on a roll against the Hornets since losing in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament in 2017. Entering the weekend, UNC is 15-14 against Sacramento State.
Looking Ahead
Northern Colorado will head back out on the road next weekend for two matches against Portland State. Both matchups are slated for 2 p.m. MT.
