Bears and Wildcats to fight for top spot in the Big Sky

GREELEY, Colo. – The weekend that's been circled on the calendar is finally here. With a spot at the top of the Big Sky standings up for grabs, Northern Colorado welcomes Weber State who is off to its best start since 1988.

Northern Colorado will be happy to at home this weekend. After a tumultuous travel schedule that left the Bears with a 2 a.m. wake-up call before heading the Portland State, UNC will be fully rested and ready to go against the current Big Sky leader, Weber State.
Taylor Muff's 10th kill of the evening on Tuesday night versus Portland State was the 1,000th career kill for the senior outside hitter. Muff is the 19th player in school history to reach that mark.
UNC and Weber State enter the weekend as the top two teams in the Big Sky conference for a reason. Both programs rank in the top two in the conference in opponent hitting percentage, kills per set and aces per set.
Senior setter and 2019 Big Sky MVP Daisy Schultz continues to lead the conference in assists. The Colorado native is averaging 10.27 per set in 2021.
The Bears have been lethal from the service line lately. Northern Colorado servers have combined for at least 10 aces for four consecutive matches.
This weekend's matchup represents a rematch of the 2019 Big Sky Championship. UNC walked away with a dramatic five-set victory as Daisy Schultz (68 assists), Kailey Jo Ince (24 kills), Taylor Muff (17 kills, 20 digs) and Taylor Els (27 digs) all delivered remarkable performances.
Last Time Out
Northern Colorado survived a second five-set thriller in its first matchup against Portland State. Due to weather in Portland, the delayed matchup forced UNC to travel at 2 a.m. that morning.
On Tuesday, the Bears put together its best offensive game of the season, hitting a season-high .339 en route to a three-set sweep. On top of collecting her fourth double-double of the season, Taylor Muff also became the 19th player to join the 1,000 kills club.
Scouting Weber State
Like most Big Sky coaches, Jeremiah Larsen welcomes back a deep roster for the 2021 spring season. In his sixth year at the helm of Weber State, his Wildcats are off to a 6-0 start and looking to avenge its Big Sky Championship loss from 2019.
Rylin Adams and reigning conference offensive player of the week Dani Nay lead the offense. Adams already has 87 kills on the season and Nay has added 88.
Nay along with Caroline Clark rank tied for No. 1 in serving at .67 aces per set.
History Against the Wildcats
The Bears boast a 24-10 record against the Wildcats. UNC bested Weber State three times in 2019 en route to its fifth Big Sky tournament title.
Looking Ahead
Northern Colorado heads out to Pocatello, Idaho next weekend for two matchups against Idaho State. Both are slated for 2 p.m. MT.
