GREELEY, Colo. – In the first rematch of the 2019 Big Sky Championship, it was Weber State that was able to avenge its loss, winning Saturday afternoon 3-1 (23-25, 16-25, 25-22, 22-25).
The Bears struggled to get anything going offensively in the first set, hitting just .062 to the Wildcats' .212. However, facing the top serving team in the conference, UNC held WSU without an ace.
Out of the break, Taylor Muff and the offense started to find its groove. Muff slammed home five kills as Kailey Jo Ince added another eight in the fourth set alone.
Defensively, it was Northern Colorado's back row that allowed the Bears to get back into the match throughout the third and fourth sets.
Kyndall Feather dialed up 21 digs and Laura Katarzynski added another 10 as UNC out dug Weber State 58-50.
Katarzynksi's three assists were also a season-high for the defensive specialist.
The two Big Sky heavyweights traded blows in the fourth set and Rachel Hickman's eighth kill of the night even had the set tied a 22. Weber ran off three straight points, though, ending what would have been another vintage UNC rally to five sets.
