Bears show bright spots versus Buffaloes, look ahead to Big Sky
2/11/2021 3:16:00 PM | Women's Soccer
BOULDER, Colo. – Northern Colorado Soccer officially kicked its season off with a familiar trip to Boulder to face the Buffaloes. Though Colorado grabbed the 3-0 victory, there were plenty of bright spots for head coach Tim Barrera and the Bears.
It was over 365 days ago that UNC fell to CU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Thursday's performance, and particularly the first half, was a noticeable improvement from that 2019 matchup.
Starting goalkeeper Morgan Bury was called upon and answered the call early to make sure the Buffs didn't get off to an electric start.
The senior tallied seven total saves on the afternoon.
With 10 minutes to play in the half, Lexi Pulley had the best scoring chance of either side. Terrific build-up play down the right channel left Pulley with time and space once the cross came in. Though Pulley wasn't able to convert, the threat signified UNC's confidence throughout the match.
CU finally broke the stalemate, cleaning up a corner kick in the 68th minute.
The Buffaloes found the back of the net twice more but it wouldn't overshadow a positive performance as the Bears gear up for Big Sky play in March.

Northern Colorado seemed determined to keep the pressure on in the second half. Fellow senior Olivia Seddon created two chances with her powerful left foot, both missing just wide of CU's net.34' | Great build up play! For nearly 70 minutes, Lindsi Jennings, Erika Hall, the Blue and Gold defense and help from the midfield with players like Maddie Duren and Cara Quin kept Colorado without a bonified scoring opportunity.56' | Bears putting the pressure on! @Liv_Seddon16 just wide!!#BearsStrong #BigSkySoccer pic.twitter.com/POtkvpv7OQ
