Bears Battles, Fall Late to California Baptist

Northern Colorado dropped a contest to CBU 74-70
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Northern Colorado started a two-game swing in northern California on Sunday night coming up just short against California Baptist 74-70. The Bears and Lancers played neck and neck all night long. A quick 7-0 CBU run and almost four-minute field goalless stretch late ended up being the difference.
Three Bears finished the game in double figures scoring in Daylen Kountz, 21 points, Dalton Knecht, 17, and Kur Jongkuch with 15.
Jongkuch had a big first half scoring 12 of his 15 points and grabbing five rebounds. He finished with another double-double grabbing 11 boards.
While Jongkuch did his work in the first half, Kountz and Knecht combined for 26 points in the second. Kountz scored 15 of his 21 including a pair of threes.
The second of those threes was big for UNC to keep it close late following CBU's 7-0 run in under a minute.
Knecht was on fire from behind the arc making a career-best five threes. He made three of those treys in the second half.

Basketball is a game of makes and misses and for UNC it came down to just that on Sunday night. While the Bears had a tough stretch soring in the second half, CBU was on fire shooting 55.6% to UNC's 41.8%.

- Daylen Kountz recorded his fourth 20-plus points game of the year scoring 21 to lead all players. He added in four rebounds, a block and an assist.
- Dalton Knecht made a career-high five threes in the game. At one point he was a perfect 5-for-5 behind the arc. He grabbed seven rebounds had two assists and a steal to go with his 17 points.
- Kur Jonguch finished two points shy of matching his career-best scoring. Jongkuch's 15 points were third on the team while leading them with 11 rebounds.
- The Bears moved the ball well on Sunday recording 15 assists on 25 makes.
- Matt Johnson II led the team with seven assists. He also scored eight points for Northern Colorado.
