UNC Men's Basketball battled No. 8 Texas on Wednesday
AUSTIN, Texas – Northern Colorado Men's Basketball fought hard against No. 8 Texas Wednesday night, outscoring the Longhorns by nine in the second half. Unfortunately, a sloppy first half was too much to overcome in a 62-49 decision.
Three Bears finished the game in double figures scoring in Daylen Kountz (14), Kur Jongkuch (13) and Matt Johnson II (12). All 12 of Johnson II's points came from behind the arc as he connected on four 3-pointers.
The first half was defined by turnovers and giving up second chance points. Texas combined for 27 points between UNC's 12 turnovers and their six offensive rebounds.
Settling in near the end of the first half, Northern Colorado played with poise and went on a 9-2 run early in the second half. Matt Johnson II kick-started the UNC offense with a pair of threes during the run.
The three-ball was key for the Bears in the second half as they made seven over the 20 minutes. Johnson II had three of them while both Kountz and Dru Kuxhausen had two each. Kur Jongkuch provided a good presence on the inside scoring nine of his 13 points in the second half as well.
