POCATELLO, Idaho, – Just what the doctor ordered.
An aggressive night at the serving line and an efficient offense helped guide Northern Colorado back to the win column, sweeping Idaho State 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 26-24).
The Bears almost completely flipped the script on the Bengals from a night ago. Four service aces, two from Laura Katarzynski and two from Michaela Boon, helped UNC sustain multiple runs in the first set.
Five kills from Lauren Strain with no errors propelled the offense as Northern Colorado took the opening set in Pocatello.
Katarzynski, who already owns UNC's Division I career ace record, extended her lead even further in the second set. Back-to-back aces in the middle of a 4-0 scoring run helped the Bears back into the lead.
In fact, the Winfield Illinois native dialed up six aces on the evening, tying the Northern Colorado single-match record with four others.
Strain along with her partner in crime Kailey Jo Ince were almost impossible to stop. Ince climbed to 12 kills on .579 hitting before the break, while Strain managed nine on .353.
Idaho State climbed out to an early lead in the third set but following a Lyndsey Oates timeout, the Blue and Gold regrouped and put on a charge.
Led by Cece Huhn, the Bears clawed its way back into the set. Huhn finished with 12 kills on .478 hitting to represent the third UNC player to reach the double-figure kill total.
The three-headed monster of Huhn, Ince and Strain accounted for 41 of Northern Colorado's 51 kills.
UNC finally took the lead at the 21-20 mark but the Bengals weren't about to throw away the set just yet. At 23-24, Idaho State had its first set point of the match, forcing a Bear timeout. After an attack error, Kyndall Feather wasn't about to let Katarzynski have all the fun at the ace party.
Back-to-back aces from Feather clinched the three-set sweep for UNC and realigned the Bears back on track in the Big Sky.
