Season-high 11 aces power Bears past Vandals

GREELEY, Colo. – Looking to make a statement, Northern Colorado Volleyball dialed up a balanced effort from nearly every position on the court to earn a four-set win over Idaho, 3-1 (25-11, 25-18, 22-25, 25-18).
UNC's aggressive effort began and ended at the service line.
Kyndall Feather kicked off the ace parade as Daisy Schultz, Michaela Boon and Kailey Jo Ince would all go on to record one in the opening frame.
Though Laura Katarzynski didn't record an ace in the first set, her serves forced Idaho out of system, leading to three straight points, earning the Bears an early 6-1 lead.
Schultz had the offense moving and grooving in set No. 1, distributing assists all over the court. Lauren Strain, Makenzie Harris and Ince all tallied three kills apiece as UNC hit .455 to claim the first set.
It was Michaela Boon who powered the Bears from the service line in the second set. Three more aces gave the Cortland, Nebraska native a season-high and tied her career-best.
In fact, as a team, Northern Colorado piled up 11 aces on the evening, the most of any match this season.
Along with Hickman and Strain, Makenzie Harris proved to be the go-to option in the second set. Harris hit .571 on seven attempts in second while the Bears took advantage of seven Vandal errors to claim a commanding two-set lead.
A couple of blocks from Idaho early in the third set gave the Vandals a bit of momentum. Every time UNC countered with kills from Strain or Hickman (each had five in the set), Idaho had the answer, inevitably holding off the Bears to force a set four.
To round out the balanced evening, Northern Colorado's block flexed its muscles in third. While UNC didn't get the production from its outside like it did in the first two sets, the combo of Huhn, Strain, Hickman and Harris bound together for six big blocks.
Even when the Vandals crept within two points near the end of the set, four straight from the Bears with Feather at the service line helped seal the deal on Tuesday evening, keeping UNC perfect at home in Big Sky play.
