Excellent Second Round Leads Men's Golf to Second Place Finish

UNC Men's Golf shot a 7-under, 281 in the second round of the Painbrush Invite
PARKER, Colo. – Competing in their third event in three weeks and fourth of the year, Northern Colorado Men's Golf finished tied for second at the DU Paintbrush Invitational. The Bears shot the second-lowest round in event history during the second round with a 7-under, 281.
That second round shot the Bears nine spots up the leaderboard to enter the final round four strokes out of first place. A final round 306 earned UNC a tie for second with host Denver at 32-over, 896 for the 54-hole event.
During the second round, Northern Colorado sunk 23 birdies. They finished the tournament with 45. Three Bears shot under-par in the round in Jack Castiglia (-6), Marcus Tait (-2) and TJ Shehee (-1).
Sophomore Blake Danni had the best individual finish for Northern Colorado with an 8-over, 224 to tie for 13th. His best round of the tournament was a first round even-par 72. He followed it up with back-to-back 4-over, 76s. His consistent play helped him to 31 pars.
UNC took advantage of the par fives shooting a tournament-best 19-under on them.
Shehee was a big part of UNC"s success on par fives by going 7-under on them. He had six birdies and an eagle on them. For the tournament, Shehee shot a 13-over, 229 to finish tied for 36th.

UNC Men's Golf concludes the fall season in two weeks at the Herb Wimberly New Mexico State Invitational in Las Cruces, NM at the New Mexico State University Golf Course. The tournament is October 18-19.
