Castiglia Leads Bears on Day 1 of Bandon Dunes Championship

UNC sits in a tie for 11th through the first round of the Bandon Dunes Championship
BANDON, Ore. – UNC men's golf teed off at the Bandon Dunes Championship on Sunday sitting in a tie for 11th place of the strong field. The Bears shot a 12-over 296 in the first round of the 54-hole tournament, just two strokes out of the top 10.
Jack Castiglia led the Bears with an even-par, 71 to be tied for 14th. He had a strong stretch over holes 15-18 with a pair of birdies and an eagle on the par 5 18th. Castiglia had three birdies on his round.
Freshman TJ Shehee led the team with four birdies during his round. He shot a 4-over, 75, entering Monday's second round in a tie for 57th.
Coby Welch is the only other Bear in the top 50 through the first round sitting in tie for 31st. He shot a 2-over, 73. Welch ended his round on a positive note with a birdie on the par 5 third.
Prenzlow's Perspective
"It is a tough golf course and great field we are competing against this week. We did some really good stuff today! Jack looked much more comfortable and all the guys did most of the day. We just had too many double and triple bogies. When we clean that up the Bears will shoot some really good numbers."
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado aims to move up the leaderboard during round two that starts at 8:30 am PT. The Bears will begin on holes 12-15.
