New Mexico Drops Bears Men’s Tennis in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – On Sunday afternoon the Bears men's tennis team played the finale of their seven-match streak on the road to start the spring season. The New Mexico Lobos were able to defend their home court with a 6-1 win over UNC, moving the Bears to 2-5 on the season.
The Lobos were able to win in doubles by taking the No. 1 win over Thomas Pudney/Julian Kenzlers 6-2, and in the No. 2 spot over Adolfo Arroyo/John Geisberts 6-3.
In singles play, New Mexico gained their second point on the day with a win in the No. 4 spot over John Geisberts 6-1, 6-3. Adolfo Arroyo was also beaten by a score of 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot. New Mexico clinched the match with a win over Julian Kenzlers 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot.
The Bears continued to battle hard and were able to gain a point from Thomas Pudney with his 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2) win over Alex Maggs. Pudney has gone 4-1 in the Bears last five matches out of the Bears No. 5 spot.
The Bears will finally get to take their home court for the first time of the spring season when they begin Big Sky conference play against Idaho State on Saturday February 15th.
