BOISE, ID – The Bears and Broncos played games two and three of the weekend series on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Boise, Idaho. In game one of the day, the Bears and Broncos were neck-and-neck the whole game, with the Broncos needing an extra inning to take the win 5-4.

Game 1

In the first game of the day, the Bears got runners on base early in the top of the first and loaded the bases, however they were left stranded. The Broncos got their first two runs on the board in the bottom of the first to take the early 2-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, Aiden Leahy reached on a walk, which allowed Jake Gitter in the next at bat to hit a double off the left field wall and bring in Leahy for the first run for UNC. The Bears tied up the score at 2-2 when Sam Leach hit the sacrifice fly to bring home Gitter.

After scoreless fourth and fifth innings for both teams, the Broncos regained the lead with a two-run inning in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 4-2 game.

In the top of the eighth inning after another scoreless inning, Billy Moreland woke up the Bears offense with a solo home run to right field to bring the Bears within one run of the Broncos. Moreland kept it going in the top of the ninth when he hit a double to left field and bring in Jake Gitter for the tying run.

With the score at 4-4 after nine innings, the Bears and Broncos went into extras, where the Broncos were able to end the game with the winning run 5-4.

Game 2

The Bears jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Sam Leach hit a two RBI single, bringing in Jake Gitter and Aiden Leahy for UNC.

After Boise State gained the 3-2 lead in the second, UNC answered by scoring two of runs from Aiden Leahy and Jake Gitter in the top of the third to make it 4-3, Bears in front.

After a big fifth inning in which the Broncos scored seven runs, the Bears did everything they could on offense to get themselves back in it. UNC scored five runs in the final four innings, but it wasn't enough to push another game to extras, and Boise State took the second game of the day 12-9.

The last game of the weekend series in Boise will be played on Sunday at 1 PM at Memorial Stadium.
