Mackenzie Pettit finished fourth in the Big Sky Championship pentathlon
POCATELLO, Idaho – Graduate student Mackenzie Pettit set a UNC record for highest finish in the pentathlon at the Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championship on Thursday by taking fourth place with a score of 3,518.
She had three top five finishes over the fiver events. Pettit's best event was the 60 hurdles with her time of 9.06 to take second place.
She finished fifth in the high jump and 800 meter run. Pettit recorded a height of 1.60m in the high jump and finished the 800 meter in 2:28.94.
In the shot put and long jump she took seventh and 10th, respectively. She had a through of 10.92m in the shot put and jump of 5.11m in the long jump.
Anya Turner also competed in the pentathlon for UNC finishing in 14th with a score of 3,113.
Coach Angel's Take
"I am so proud of McKenzie, she battled hard in every event. She was third heading into the final event only to be denied the bronze medal due to the outstanding 800 meter run by Emily Barnes of Weber State. Barnes time broke the Big Sky record. McKenzie's performance was the motivation and momentum that we needed to go into tomorrow. Now it's time for the rest of the team to do their part."
What's Ahead
The Big Sky Indoor Championships continue tomorrow with the prelims for all running events and finals in a few field events.
