Women’s Tennis Falls Short in BSC Opener

PARKER, Colo. – The Bears played their fourth home match in a row when they opened Big Sky conference play Saturday night against the Idaho Vandals at the Parker Racquetball Club. The Vandals defeated the Bears 6-1.
Sarina Chhabra picked up her third singles win of the year in the No. 5 spot with a hard fought match against Andjela Todorovic. Chhabra took the first set 6-4, and Todorovic evened thigs up with a 6-4 win of her own. Chhabra finished business quickly in the third set, winning 6-1 and earning the only point on the day for UNC.
Two other Bears also went took their singles duels into three sets. Milena Belianovich came extremely close in her final two sets to getting a point for the Bears, but was narrowly edged out by Maggie Chen by a score of 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-10. After falling in the first set 4-6, Synclair Larson had a 6-3 second-set to force the third, where she ultimately fell 2-6.
Despite the Vandals winning the doubles point, Sandra Keta/Sarina Chhabra fought hard in the No. 3 doubles spot and pulled out the 6-4 win over Todorovic/Horacek.
Milena Belianovich/Madison Wolfe were 2-0 last weekend as a pairing, with both wins coming from the No. 2 spot. They suffered their first loss in that No. 2 spot tonight 6-2. Raffa Mora/Synclair Larson also fell in the No. 1 spot 6-3.

"It was a great tough match played by both teams. Unfortunately we came out on the wrong side of the equation. Our team fought very hard. We are extremely proud about the effort and encouraged because our best tennis is ahead of us."
UNC moves to 2-5 on the season with plenty of tennis left to play. The Bears will play three straight non-conference matches before entering the bulk of Big Sky conference play. The next match has the team on the road playing Creighton next Saturday at 2 PM in Omaha, NE.
