Women’s Tennis Takes Both Sunday Matches

PARKER, Colo. – It was a perfect day for the Bears women's tennis team, going 2-0 and not dropping a point in a double-header against in-state opponents Metro State and Colorado State-Pueblo at Parker Racquetball Club. The Bears began the day by defeating the Metro State Road Runners 4-0, and was capped off with an evening victory over CSUP 7-0.
Match 1 vs Metro State
In doubles play, the Bears claimed the doubles point with victories in the No. 1 and 2 spots. Raffa Mora/Synclair Larson won 6-2 in No.1, and Milena Belianovich/Madison Wolfe defeated their opponents in the No. 2 spot 6-4.
In singles, Milena Belianovich won a singles point in the No. 3 spot, deafeating Gala Castello 6-4, 6-1. Madison Wolfe picked up the second point against the Roadrunners with a 6-1, 7-5 win in the No. 4 spot.
Raffa Mora clinched the match with her win in the No. 2 spot with a three-set win 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. Sarina Chhabra blanked her opponent in the one set they played in the No. 5 spot. Sandra Keta battled hard with her opponent in the No. 1 spot and went into three sets with the score being 5-7, 6-2, 4-4 before going unfinished.
Match 2 vs CSU-P
In doubles, Milena Belianovich/Madison Wolfe again won in the No. 2 spot by a score of 6-1. Sandra Keta/Natalie Stanton sealed the doubles point for UNC with their 6-2 win in the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, the Bears allowed none of their matchups to go into three sets. Synclair Larson didn't allow her opponent a single point in the No. 5 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0. Milena Belianovich and Sarina Chhabra both won 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 and 4 spots, respectively.
Sandra Keta had a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win as the Bears No. 1, Madison Wolfe got the win 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot, and Natalie Stanton took her match 6-3, 6-2 in No. 6.
Head Coach Chad Stoloff had this to say after the match,
"It was a good day for the Bears to put into match play what we have been working on in practice. We were tested and battled strong. Thanks to all of the fans that came out to cheer on your Bears."
The Bears earned their first two wins of the season today and improve their record to 2-4 on the season. Their next matchup has them beginning Big Sky conference play on February 22nd when they host the Idaho Vandals at 7 PM.
