UNC track and field didn't back down from the strong competition at the Tyson Invitational
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Facing some of the best in the nation at the Tyson Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas, Northern Colorado track and field stepped up its game with their performance on the weekend. The Bears recorded six top 10 performance times in the Big Sky over the meet.
"I thought that we had a solid meet at the Tyson Invitational. We are starting to understand what it takes to be a real competitor. We fought hard and had lots of Big Sky ranking performances," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Wayne Angle said. "We will definitely be prepared for the Big Sky in a couple of weeks. I'm so proud of these student-athletes, they represented the Bear nation with pride and class."
UNC finished on a strong note with both its men's and women's 4x400 relay team posting top two times in the conference. The team of Kelsi Schuetz, Gabrielle Ellis, Viktorija Osipenko and Mackenzie Pettit crossed the line in 3:48.16 to rank first in the conference.
Schuetz also moved into the top five for the performance list with a PR in the 24.84 seconds in the 200m. That moves her to fourth on the Big Sky performance list and fifth in the program's indoor record book.
The men's team recorded the second-best time of the year for the Big Sky with a 3:16.56. The relay team was made up of Deondre Ritter, Cameron Ross, Kyle Thomas and Antoine Coates.
Thomas also moved up the men's 400m performance list by running it in 48.60 seconds. He now sits in sixth on the Big Sky's performance list for the 2019-20 indoor season.

A trio of hurdlers turned in big performances for the Bears.
