Track and Field Continues Strong Indoor Season Performance

UNC track and field competed at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite and Colorado Running Company Mountain Lion Open.
Northern Colorado track and field split up this weekend competing at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite and Colorado Running Company Mountain Lion Open. The Bears continued its upward trend for the indoor season with 20 top 30 performances in the Big Sky for the year. Twelve of the marks entered the top 20 and five in the top 10.
Both of UNC's 4x400 relay teams recorded the third-fastest time in the Big Sky this year at the Husker Invite. The men's team comprised of Antoine Coates, Kyle Thomas, Cameron Ross and Deondre Ritter crossed the line in 3:18.28. The women's relay ran a 3:51.26. Kelsi Schutz, Gabrielle Ellis, Viktorija Osipenko and Mackenzie Pettit ran the 4x400 for the women.
Schuetz and Ritter each turned in individual top performances for the Bears as well.
Schuetz moved her name up the performance list for the 60m and 400m. In the 400m she crossed the line in 56.80 for the seventh-best time in the Big Sky. Her mark of 7.78 ranks 11th for the 60m.
Ritter now sits in 14th for the Big Sky for the 200m with his time of 22.09.
Anya Turner and Kylie Chavez turned in the other two top 10 marks for UNC over the weekend. Turner scored a 3,263 in the pentathlon which is the 10th best in the Big Sky. Her marks in the 60h and high jump rank in the top 30 for the conference. She ran a 9.25 in the 60h to rank 25th and her mark of 1.60m (5'3") is 23rd for the high jump.
Chavez now ranks in the top 10 in the triple jump after her leap of 11.58m (38'0"). She just missed out on a top 10 mark in the high jump at 1.65m (5'5"), now sitting at 11th in the Big Sky.
While UNC had good results on the track and in the field events at the Husker Invite, the Bears performed well in field events at the Mountain Lion Open.
Three pole vaulters now rank in the top 20 in the Big Sky after their performances. Alius Evans and Liam Johnson rank 12th and 17th on the men's side, while Brook Walker is 18th on the women's list. Evans and Johnson cleared marks of 4.63m (15' 2.25") and 4.48m (14' 8.25"), respectively on the men's side. Walker's vaulted over the mark at 3.40m (11' 1.75").
Maccee Reed moved into the top 15 for the triple jump at the Mountain Lion Open with a leap of 16.63m (44' 8.75")

Northern Colorado heads to Fayetteville, Arkansas this weekend to compete against some of the best in the country at the Tyson Invitational over February 14 and 15.
