Bears Drop Spring Opener to Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – The UNC women's tennis team did not shy away from a challenge to start their spring season off, falling to Arizona State 7-0 on Sunday morning.
The doubles point was won by the Sun Devils by defeating Raffa Mora/Milena Belianovich 6-0 in the No. 1 spot, as well as Sandra Keta/Natalie Stanton 6-1 in the No. 3 pairing. The No. 2 pairing of Madison Wolfe/Synclair Larson ended their match unfinished down 4-2.
In singles play, Arizona State did not allow the Bears to gain momentum. Milena Belianovich had a hard-fought battle in the No. 3 spot, falling narrowly 7-6 (3), 6-3.
Sarina Chhabra was able to force three sets with her opponent after losing the first set 3-6 and evening things up with a 6-4 win in the second set. Chhabra fell in a lengthy third set 16-14.
Head Coach Chad Stoloff after the match had positive words for his team,
"We battled for every point. They were too good today. Our team spirit was outstanding! This was a great opportunity for our team and program to play a powerhouse program early in the season. Sarina and Milena both had excellent matches with chances to win. We will grow from this match."
Next up for the Bears is their first home match against the Air Force Academy on Sunday, January 26th at 2 PM.
