Pair of Bears Tie for First, Men's Golf Takes Second at Gene Miranda Falcon Invite

Coby Welch and Jack Castiglia tied for first at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite to help the team finish in second place overall
COLORADO SPRINGS – A strong second and third round by Northern Colorado men's golf lifted them to a second place finish at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite. The team shot a 5-under, 859, five strokes behind champion Colorado.
Coby Welch and Jack Castiglia tied first for the 54-hole event along with Southern Utah's Jack Vincent. Vincent won the individual crown in a playoff. Welch and Castiglia shot a 7-under, 209 for the tournament.
Welch entered the final round one stroke ahead of his teammate after shooting a 4-under, 68 in Saturday's second round. He stayed the status quo on Sunday by shooting an even-par, 72. Over the final 18, he put four birdies on his scorecard and had 13 for the tournament.
Castiglia led the tournament with 15 birdies including three on his way to a 1-under, 71 on Sunday. Almost half of Castiglia's birdies came during the second round when he had six for the round on his way to shooting a 3-under, 69.
Marcus Tait and TJ Shehee each finished in the top 50 by shooting a 220 and 221, respectively.

Nice finish for the Bears!! Fun to watch these guys compete! Coby and Jack were excellent all 54 holes! The rest of the guys chipped in to help make this a very good week. We looked relaxed and confident! Of course, we would like to have won but beating teams in other major conferences is a feather in our cap.

Northern Colorado returns to the course for the Ram Masters Invitational over September 16 and 17 at the Fort Collins Country Club.
