UNC men's basketball has plenty of opportunities to make a name for themselves with their 2019-20 schedule
GREELEY – The 2019-20 Northern Colorado men's basketball schedule features a pair of Big 12 schools, a trip to Cancun and chance at history. The Bears face Texas (Nov. 5) and West Virginia (Nov. 18) from the Big 12 Conference, go to Cancun, Mexico over November 26 and 27 for the Cancun Challenge and aim for their third straight win at Wyoming (Dec. 14).
The Bears return Big Sky Freshman of the Year Bodie Hume along with two-time Defensive Player of the Year Jonah Radabaugh and are led by third-year head coach and Big Sky Coach of the Year Jeff Linder coming off a 21-11 season.
UNC opens the 2019-20 season with a trip to the Lone Star State to face the NIT Champions Texas on November 5 before coming home for a pair of home games including a doubleheader on November 8 with the women's basketball team. The men host Incarnate Word at 8 pm on the eighth for the home opener following the women's basketball team hosting rival Colorado State at 6 pm.
The Bears next big non-conference game comes on November 16 when they head to Morgantown, West Virginia to take on legendary head coach Bob Huggins and his West Virginia Mountaineers. The game is a part of the Cancun Challenge for UNC.
Both games against Texas and West Virginia are first time meetings against those programs.
During Thanksgiving week the team heads across the border to Mexico to play against Boston and then either UT Martin or Gardner Webb to close out the Cancun Challenge. The games are set for November 26 and 27.
Northern Colorado's non-conference schedule concludes with games against regional foes Wyoming (Dec. 14), Denver (Dec. 17) and South Dakota (Dec. 20). The lone home game of that stretch comes against Denver. UNC looks to extend its win streak at Wyoming to three games after making history last year becoming just the third team to win back-to-back games at the Arena-Auditorium.
Big Sky play starts just before New Year's with a trip to Portland State on December 28. Northern Colorado then has a stretch of four home games over a five-game period including a key early stretch when Montana comes to Bank of Colorado Arena on January 4 and then the team travels to Weber State on January 9.
It will be a tough end to the Big Sky season for the Bears who are on the road for five of their final eight games. The next to last game is set up to be a big one for UNC against Montana in Missoula on March 5.
Once again, this year the Big Sky Tournament will be played inside the Century Link Arena in Boise Idaho over March 11-14.
