Welch, Castiglia Pick Up Second Top 10 Finish of Season

UNC men's golf turned in its best round of the Ram Master Classic on Tuesday.
FORT COLLINS – Northern Colorado Men's Golf closed out the Ram Master Invitational on Tuesday with its best round of the tournament, shooting a 4-over, 284. Both Coby Welch and Jack Castiglia earned their second top 10 finish of the season.
The strong day on the course allowed UNC to move up a spot in the standings going from eighth place entering the day to seventh when all the dust settled. The Bears final score ended up being a 17-over, 857.
Jack Castiglia shot the best round of the tournament by a Bear with a 3-under, 67. The sophomore's final round helped propel him to a tie for eighth alongside teammate Coby Welch. The duo ended up with a total of 209 to be 1-under for the 54-hole event. Castiglia started his day on fire with three straight birdies. By the end of the round he had six birdies on his scorecard.
Welch, tied Castiglia by shooting an even-par, 70 on Tuesday. He shot a 1-under 34 on the back nine after making the turn with a 36.
Freshman TJ Shehee turned in his best round as a Bear with a 2-over, 72.
Prenzlow's Perspective
Other than losing some shots late in the round we played well today. The conditions were tough as the hole locations on some holes were brutal but fair. Jack was stellar all day, Coby played well and freshman TJ Shehee stepped up and played a nice round. We look forward to going on our first trip out of state next week to Madison, Illinois. We need to clean some things up beforehand in practice. This team loves to compete so I think we will have a great week of prep then go let things fly next week!

UNC returns to the course next week at the SIU Dereck Dolence Invitational at the Gateway National Golf Club in Madison, Illinois. The 54-hole Tournament runs over September 23 and 24.
