Forty-Eight Bears earn Spring Big Sky All-Academic Honors

UNC athletics saw 48 student-athletes earn spring Big Sky All-Academic honors
OGDEN, Utah – The Big Sky Conference announced its 2019 Spring All-Academic teams. Northern Colorado placed 48 student-athletes on the teams, two more than the 2018 season. Women's track and field led the way for the Bears with 14, followed by 11 from softball, seven from men's track and field, five each from men's and women's tennis and three each from men's and women's golf.
The honorees for the conference include 400 student-athletes who achieved a combined grade point average of 3.5 or higher and 37 student-athletes who nailed a perfect 4.0 GPA, three of which came from UNC. Over 600 honorees made the all-academic teams, while softball tied for the most in conference history with 66.
"The Big Sky Conference is committed to academic excellence," said Commissioner Tom Wistrcill. "To see our student-athletes continue to rise to the occasion in the classroom and in their sport is a testament to their hard work and dedication. I'm proud to see our institutions put academics at the forefront, as the coaching staffs and administrators strive to create a well-rounded student-athlete experience."
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Participated in at least half of the team's competitions. In track & field student-athletes competed at the outdoor conference championships. 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.
