Bears pound out 8 runs and 14 hits against the top staff in the WAC
5/3/2019 6:48:00 PM | Baseball
Sacramento State came into Greeley with the lowest earned run average in the WAC. UNC wasn't impressed. The Bears pounded out 14 hits on the way to a series-opening 8-6 win.
After just one run had been scored in the first 3 and a half innings, and it came without the benefit of a hit, the two offenses exploded over the next four innings combing to score 13 runs. Tied at 5-5 in the sixth, Tyler Yamaguchi came on to pinch hit and made his first appearance in six games worthwhile by driving in the go-ahead run with a single up the middle.
UNC would go on to tack on a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh and scored what turned out to be the game-winning run on a wild pitch. Matt Zoba delivered the second of his two RBIs to give the Bears an insurance run.
Connor Anderson was brilliant out of the pen. He threw 3 1/2 innings and allowed just one run on one hit to close out the Bears second-straight conference win.
BREAKING OUT OF THE BOX SCORE
UNC will look to pick up the series win over Sacramento State on Saturday when the two square off in Game 2 of the series starting a 1 p.m.
